125 Years of Opportunity and Excellence

From its beginnings as a small woman’s college in 1892 to its current status as a nationally ranked leader, UNCG continues its growth with more than 250 bachelor’s, master’s, certificate, and doctoral programs. Now with 35 online programs, we’re bringing UNCG to you.

125 years of moving ahead

In its long-standing history, UNCG has seen a lot of firsts. From racial integration in 1956 to opening its doors to males in 1964, UNCG has created opportunity for all students. Academic programs supported by research and service-learning now help more than 19,000 students achieve excellence.

The first student body of 198 led the way for future classes, helping to create a reputation for all types of learning—from helping a professor bring better resources to local neighborhoods to studying abroad to interactive learning through an online course.   

What’s notable about UNCG

UNCG has been continuously recognized for its academic programs, affordability, and overall excellence. Its online programs have gained national attention.

  • UNCG is an innovation leader in college completion programs, recognized for keeping student demographics like minority status or income from hindering college completion.

  • US News & World Report ranked some of UNCG’s online programs among the nation’s best: the Master of Science in Information Technology and Management, the online Master of Education in Teacher Education with a concentration in Elementary Mathematics, and the Master of Education in Birth-Kindergarten Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development.

  • Master’s Programs Guide ranked two online graduate education programs in its 50 Best Online Master of Education Degree Programs: the Master of Education in Birth-Kindergarten Interdisciplinary Studies in Education and Development and the Master of Education in Teacher Education with a concentration in Elementary Mathematics.

  • College Choice ranked UNCG in the Top 10 of its 25 Best Colleges in North Carolina list, including third in public universities, citing the College of Visual and Performing Arts, research, business and science programs, and available master’s and doctoral degrees.

Online programs expand UNCG’s reach

UNCG’s strong online programs allow students to get the same quality education of traditional classrooms in a convenient platform. With 35 programs to choose from, students can complete a bachelor’s degree or earn a graduate certificate, master’s, or doctoral degree online.
