Get an Online Graduate’s Perspective on This Week’s New Podcast

Graphic of mortar board and diplomaCurious about the online experience and how UNC Greensboro supports students in its online programs? Hear a former student’s perspective.

On the latest episode of our new Online by Design podcast, we chat with Nina Shamsi. She shares why she chose the online BS in Integrated Professional Studies (BIPS) program.

This Week’s Guest: Nina Shamsi

Nina graduated from the BIPS program in 2019. Now a buyer for a multinational company, she tells us she chose UNCG’s online program because she needed the flexibility. It felt personalized.

“From day one, I felt that they truly cared for you as an individual,” she says. “I don’t feel like I'm a number at UNCG.”

Because she worked during the day, she fit most of her coursework in during evenings and weekends. “You can't do face-to-face classes at 1 o’clock in the morning. And I would send an email. And I’m like, OK, I'll probably hear from the professor maybe tomorrow or something. I'd turn around and get an email back. I’m like whoa, someone else is awake just like me that can help me right off the bat,” she says. “It was great. I never felt alone. I always felt that UNCG had my back.”

About the Podcast

In this first season of Online by Design, hosts Dr. Susie Boles, assistant director of instructional design at UNCG Online, and Sidney Fletcher, adaptive technology specialist for OARS, feature faculty, staff, and other online education experts. UNCG students and alumni also join the podcast to discuss their experiences in online programs.

New episodes will be posted to the Online by Design website each Tuesday. Previous episodes include a chat with an advisor in the BIPS program about supporting online students and connecting them with resources, as well as a course designer whose course is using hip-hop music as a window to the past.
