How to Make 2018 Your Best Year Ever

January 10, 2018 by Miranda Lim |

What resolutions have you made? Is this the year you’ll learn something new, expand your horizons, and grow personally and professionally? It can be, when you take an online class!

Free Tool to Get You Started is a series of three online modules created by UNC Greensboro that will help you assess your level of readiness to become an online student. Online courses are flexible, collaborative, and interactive. They’re also just as rigorous as traditional face-to-face classes, and require strong technology and time management skills. In short, online courses aren’t for everyone. You’ll need to be informed about the realities of online classes in order to make the best decision for your educational goals.

Topics Relevant to Your Life

Ready to Learn walks you through the three most critical areas you’ll need to evaluate to determine if an online course is a good fit for you:

  • Technology,
  • the Online Classroom,
  • and Lifestyle.

There’s even a demo of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), an application used by students and instructors to deliver course content, administer assignments, and communicate with class members.

Avoid Pitfalls to Success

Each Ready to Learn module teaches you best practices for being an online student so you’re ready for success from day one. Taking these modules before class begins can help you avoid challenges and mistakes that could pose a challenge to your performance. Get your technology tools, learning preferences, and personal responsibilities aligned in a way that allows you to stay motivated and engaged in the online learning environment.

Strategies to Help You Prepare

If you aren’t sure what module you need to brush up on, Ready to Learn includes a free pre-assessment you can take to help you decide if online courses are a good fit for you. This quiz is reflective and personal, with questions designed to help you determine if you’re ready to enroll in an online course. Answer the 22 questions as honestly as you can. You’ll be provided with feedback for each of your responses, giving you tips and strategies for how you can best prepare to take an online course.
