How do you create high-quality online courses? What services and resources are available to online students?
UNC Greensboro’s new podcast, Online by Design, will tackle these questions and more during its first season. Hosted by Dr. Susie Boles, assistant director of instructional design at UNCG Online, and Sidney Fletcher, adaptive technology specialist for OARS, the podcast features faculty, staff, and other online education experts. UNCG students and alumni also join the podcast to speak about their experiences in online programs.
New episodes will be posted to the Online by Design website each Tuesday. In Episode 1, Susie and Sid talk with Phillip Wogatzke, an advisor in the B.S. in Integrated Professional Studies program. Phillip explains how he supports online students and connects them with resources on their path to graduation.
Today’s Guest: Thomas Taylor
In the latest episode, the School of Music’s Thomas Taylor talks about his popular Topics in Hip-hop course. He discusses how he designed the course to help students look inward as they reflect and relate to the music — and how he often hears from students long after class is over.
“I do get people, probably once a semester, who will send me an email with a link to a video, or a link to a movie, or a link to a song, and say ‘Hey, I heard this song (or I saw this video) and I thought about you. And it made me really think about all the things that I learned in that class. And it’s pretty interesting that before this class, I wouldn’t have paid attention to that type of thing. And now I do. So I thought of you. So here, check this out.’ So it’s pretty nice,” Thomas says.
